Director’s Welcome

Welcome

Today’s young people are aware that they cannot afford to be a generation of idle protest. Instead, they are already stepping up as future leaders committed to addressing the existential challenges of their age.

However, these challenges can appear overwhelming. Once we try to delve beneath buzzwords like “big data”, “artificial intelligence”, “climate change”, or “blockchain”, we often struggle to get a conceptual handle on the real issues we are facing.

While academic disciplines provide some of the skills and knowledge required for understanding these problems, tomorrow’s leaders will need to creatively combine theories and methodologies from different research areas, and develop consensual ethical visions of how the world should be.

Our intensive residential programme will equip delegates with the knowledge and conceptual repertoire they require to think seriously about the challenges their generation will face. By doing so, we hope to produce a cohort of leaders who are kinder, wiser, and more foresighted than those of the past.

Dr Peter Dennis, Programme Director
